Our School

We are an 11-18 comprehensive school serving the communities of Bargoed, Aberbargoed, Gilfach, Deri, and Tirphil in the Caerphilly County Borough.  At Ysgol Gyfun Heolddu, we are proud to be a warm, welcoming school with high expectations of all learners in our community.  Staff, students, parents, and partners work closely together towards our mission statement: Achieving Excellence Together.

Ysgol Gyfun Heolddu is a rapidly improving and growing school.  We are a regional Professional Learning Lead school, providing high-quality professional development for schools across the region and beyond.  We have a strong partnership with the WalkThrus team and have devised innovative programmes to focus on coaching high-quality learning and teaching as a whole-school approach.

We are also a lead partner school with Cardiff Met University, providing placements for up to 30 Initial Teacher Education students each year.  Providing the highest quality learning experiences for our pupils is our number one priority, and we work relentlessly to achieve this.
